The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
developed a code that outlines proper maintenance of chimneys,
fireplaces, vents and solid-fuel-burning appliances.
This code (NFPA 211) states that a chimney should be professionally swept each and every year.
At ChimneyFix, our technicians sweep and clean chimneys according to code, so you can be sure you have a well-maintained chimney.
Buildup of Flammable Residue
Creosote is a highly-combustible deposit that can build up on the walls of your flue as you use your fireplace or stove. It takes on different looks – sometimes puffy, sometimes sticky — but always flammable, and always dangerous. When you use your fireplace, heated air travels up the flue, carrying gases and other byproducts with it. That air hits the chimney walls, which are comparatively cooler, and condensation occurs, leading to the formation of creosote. Although it’s virtually impossible to prevent creosote build-up entirely, call us to safely remove creosote, using the proper tools and methods so that your flue is once again clear and safe for use.
